Editorial policy

This page explains who writes the Paws of Oz blog, how our guides are researched and reviewed, how we make money, and where our advice stops. It applies to every article on this site.

Who writes here

Every guide carries a real byline with a linked profile page. Our team of 11 contributors includes a veterinary nurse, a certified dog trainer, a certified feline behaviour consultant, a professional groomer, a pet-industry data analyst, a gear store founder and experienced owners. Full bios, locations and credentials live on our writers page (Daniel Whitlock, David Thompson, Ella Tran, Hannah Wright, Jess Allen, Maddie Sorensen, Marcus Hale, Mick O'Donnell, Nadia Brooks, Sophie Bennett, Tessa Ngata).

How guides are researched and reviewed

  • First-hand use. Wherever possible we test gear in real Australian homes, yards and cars before recommending or dismissing it.
  • Sizing and materials checked. Measurements, fabric weights and care labels are checked against the manufacturer's specification, not marketing copy.
  • Clinical angle. Articles about anxiety, senior pets and joint health are written or reviewed by our veterinary nurse. She explains context and general care only — our writers never diagnose conditions or recommend doses.
  • Corrections. Spotted something wrong? Email us and we will verify and correct the guide, with the date of the change noted on the page.

Health, calming and parasite content (important)

Some guides discuss calming aids, anxiety and parasite control. In Australia, chemical parasite control products are regulated by the APVMA, and any health decision about your pet belongs with your veterinarian. Our content on these topics is general information drawn from personal experience and published guidance — it is not veterinary advice, it does not replace a consultation, and we do not make treatment claims. Always read the product label and follow your vet's direction for your animal.

Advertising and affiliate disclosure

The blog is owned and run by Paws of Oz, an Australian pet supplies store. Guides link to our own store, and if you buy through those links we earn the sale — that is the entire business model. We do not publish sponsored posts, we do not accept payment for placement or rankings, and no brand pays us to appear in a guide. When we say a budget option is good enough, it is because we tested it, not because someone paid for the sentence.

How we make comparisons

When we compare tiers or brands we state what differs — stitching, padding, hardware, warranty — and at what price the extra money stops buying anything you will notice. Review samples, if used, are disclosed in the article.
